BBC RADIO 1 Invite PORTER ROBINSON To The UK For Live Essential Mix!

Radio 1 hosts some of the world’s most notorious parties, and their upcoming ‘Radio 1 Live in Hull’ event will be no exception. From Thursday 26th to Saturday 28th January, the commanders of UK national radio have picked Hull as their destination of choice, taking over various sites across the city. On Friday 27th January the Essential Mix goes LIVE from Hull City Hall as Porter Robinson joins Fedde Le Grand, Chuckie and Judge Jules for a very special night!

After 2011 Porter is a natural choice, having completed more in 12 months than some DJ’s have achieved in 12 years. Touring with Skrillex and Tiësto, releasing a Beatport-crashing EP on Skrillex’s OWSLA label, remixing Lady Gaga and Avicii and headlining his own North American tour, Porter proved beyond doubt that he is THE name to watch in 2012.

What’s more, this will be the FIRST UK appearance of his career! What greater way to make an entrance than with your first ever Essential Mix, in your first ever visit – all live on the country’s most influential channel.

Tune in live from 11PM GMT on Friday 27th January to hear Porter Robinson live on Radio 1’s world famous Essential Mix, and listen again for 7 days after via BBC iPlayer. For full information on the entire event, click here.

Free Tracks from Fedde Le Grand and Nicky Romero

You’d think  Fedde le Grand and Nicky Romero  would be too busy to bang out two absolutely slamming house tracks just for the sheer hell of it. But when the pair got together in the studio late last year, that’s exactly what they did. And now you get to enjoy the fruits of their labour – for free!

Filthy, sizzling and downright electronically sleaze-tastic, Freaky and Slacking are two huge tracks that showcase the world-class talent of both Dutch producers to a tee. Freaky’s undulating vocoded lines and bouncing basslines will have electro-house heads turning the volume to breaking point, while on Slacking Fedde and Nicky turn to the lyrical talents of MC Gee to severely jack up the track’s already warping electronic tension.

To get your hands on both singles, it couldn’t be easier. Just ‘like’ the official Fedde le Grand and Nicky Romero Facebook pages – www.facebook.com/feddelegrand and www.facebook.com/djnickyromero - and the tracks are yours!

Happy 2012!

EVENT REVIEW: Calvin Harris, Nicky Romero, Burns Fri Jan 20 at Pacha NY

It’s no surprise that a show with such a highly anticipated lineup would sell out in advance and have a huge line going down the block before the opener even went on. Pacha kicked the night off with Burns who might not be as well-known as the rest of the boys, but I can assure you he won the crowd over this past Friday night with his “European Se Music”. He started off with some chill house beats just to get the crowd moving and quickly pumped up the Electro dropping a remix of Original Don by Major Lazer that I hadn’t even heard before. Towards the end of his set he raised the heat by playing Nicky Romero’s Camorra who was to go on later in the night.

Calvin Harris received a warm welcome by the jam-packed NYC crowd as he opened with one of his first big hits, I’m Not Alone. Throughout the night he managed to please his mainstream fans that were there for his radio hits as well as the electro house addicts who came out for the hard beats. There was a balance between the pop singles like Bounce with Kelis and the anthems such as The Calling and Save the World that had everyone literally bouncing while joining in a massive group chant. Having seen him live at Electric Zoo this past summer and at Pacha last weekend I have to admit that as much as I love the free flowing space of an outdoor festival, there is something intimate about being in a dark, sweaty crammed room with hundreds of strangers who got their hands perpetually reaching for the ceiling and their feet stomping on the hard wood floors.

Following Calvin Harris was Nicky Romero, a young talent that has been blowing up for the past year, and for a very good reason. He produces heavy synths that he combines with beautiful melodies, creating his very own Dirty Dutch sound. He first gained recognition for his remix of Green Velvet’s Flash and has come out with banger after banger ever since. His most recent tracks are Toulouse, Generation 303 and his collaboration with Avicii called Fuck School, all of which were crowd pleasers at Pacha. Personally he was the DJ I had been most excited about seeing and he did not disappoint. His set was full of energy, even the folks sitting in VIP were up and dancing to his music. Nicky Romero is one of those DJs that can play his own tracks for half of the set and get away with it because there is so much variety.

The night came to a close with Pierce Fulton, an even younger producer/DJ who is only 19 years of age kept the party going until the early morning. Sure, there were folks who left, VIP was all cleared out. I knew of Pierce Fulton beforehand and decided to stay until I couldn’t stand anymore. He did a wonderful job, especially for a young newbie closing for a heavy hitter like Calvin Harris.

It was an amazing night spent dancing to quality EDM tunes. The crowd was lively and the overall energy was powerful. I wouldn’t mind seeing any of the four DJs again anytime soon, especially Nicky Romero.

Fedde Le Grand Live Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1

We all know what an extraordinary year Fedde le Grand achieved in the not so distant 2011. No surprises then that he’s kick-starting the New Year in equally immaculate fashion…

Maya Jane Coles Announces Full UK tour

What a year 2011 was for Maya Jane Coles. Voted ‘Producer of the Year 2011' by DJ Mag, named ‘Best Breakthrough DJ 2011' by Mixmag, debuting at No. 9 on the Resident Advisor ’2011 DJ Poll’, scooping ‘Best Newcomer 2011' at the Ibiza DJ Awards 2011, many magazine covers and the likes of Anja Schneider, Ellen Allien, Damon Alburn and Tricky all queuing up to offer their praise.

Well that was 2011 and this is most definitely 2012 where the bar is set to be raised once more for this rather unique 24-year old, British/Japanese producer; with Maya already scheduled to dj in over 20 countries in the first 6 months alone, some interesting release projects to be announced, some huge remixes and of course – the big one, the release of Maya’s debut album.

Indeed, heralded in by a New Year’s Eve set that saw Maya take over the Room One decks at Fabric for the midnight hour and followed by the New Year’s Day party at Manchester’s WHP the next day. Maya will play in over 20+ countries over the first 6 months of 2012 and has already been announced as the Sunday headliner at Bugged Out Weekender, as well as for festival appearances at Field Day and Hideout with MANY, MANY more international dates to be announced including a UK Tour, Asian Tour, Miami Dates and of course a return to the White Island of Ibiza….

For most people the mere mastery of music would be enough but not for Maya, her brain just wasn’t built to be constrained so in the future we may more of Maya talents from the world’s of fashion, photography and art but for now Maya is clear – MUSIC definitely comes first!

What will crown 2012 is Maya’s album and the only thing we can tell you about it at the moment is that it truly does not sound like anything else you have heard before but, in what we would like to think is; in a very good way indeed.

UNER joins Cadenza for the first time with the two-piece ‘Palua’ EP

Bearing the name as one of the most influential and highly rated electronic artists from the Spanish scene, UNER joins Cadenza for the first time with the two-piece ‘Palua’ EP.

Clocking up some flawless releases over the last few years on imprints such as Diynamic, 2020 Vision, Get Physical or Defected among others, UNER’s percussion and funk led productions have caught the ears of many and Cadenza proudly welcome him aboard in the opening weeks of 2012.

The EP’s A-side ‘Pallene’ marks itself with an insatiably rhythmic appetite. Bongo’s tap, tom drum’s echo and shakers hiss through the opening moments, underpinned by a simple yet provoking piano melody.  Winding along at a pitter patter pace, UNER’s live percussion performed alongside Nacho Gonzalez make for an elegant and classic atmosphere.
As ‘Pallene’ and its bellowing kick wriggle along sensually through scattered doubled keys, warm synths and shimmering hi-hats, it takes on a dance floor worthy interpretation of classic Latino Glamour.

Joined by B-side ‘Cocoua’, the ‘Palua’ EP retains its wriggling sensuality with pounding kicks and high contrasting hats and shakers. Building demurely with a rising bass line that mocks the clattering cymbal crashes, ‘Cocoua’ swings into dusky late night vibes as a melodic chord pattern makes its entrance. Gloriously simple in its stabbing arrangement. ‘Cocoua’ fels hypnotic, timeless and sexy as is the perfect companion for ‘Pallene’.

Avicii Tour's to Fight Hunger

Rising Swedish DJ, remixer, and producer Avicii and At Night Management announced today the official dates for their one million dollar House For Hunger January 2012 Tour.

The tour which boasts 26 high-performance shows packed into 27 days is set to kick-off on Thursday, January 5th in Detroit, Michigan and will make stop in cities throughout the U.S. where fans have yet to see Avicii perform.

On the heels of a Best Dance Recording Grammy nomination for the co-produced David Guetta track "Sunshine," U.S. fans will get to hear for the first time live Avicii’s newly released single “Levels” which has been declared the “Tune of 2011? by David Guetta in DJ Mag.

Avicii and his manager and executive producer Arash "Ash" Pournouri have also announced a commitment to donate $1 million dollars in gig fees personally received from the tour to Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization comprised of more than 200 member food banks across the country. The donation will help provide approximately 8 million meals to those in need through Feeding America.

Additionally, during the House For Hunger Tour, Avicii, Ash and local promoters hope to raise awareness about the reality of hunger issues faced today by many working Americans and engage the next generation of leaders to join in the fight against hunger.

“Hunger hits everywhere and the US is not immune to it,” said Avicii upon announcing the House For Hunger Tour. “For me personally when I found out how widespread the hunger problem in the United States actually was it blew my mind. I never would have imagined that 1 in 6 people in America struggle with hunger or that 1 in 4 children routinely do not get enough to eat. “It feels right to kick off this movement of giving back in the US, seeing how many amazing experiences and opportunities America has given me over the past two years, as well as the support I've gotten from my fans here,” he added.

Avicii’s manager Ash Pournouri continued, "This is the first time in electronic music history that someone is stepping up in such a massive way to engage fans in a movement to give back in their communities." "I felt it was time to turn a corner and tear down the negative stereotypes of drugs and reckless partying often associated with the house/trance/dance music scene as it’s a far cry from what the reality of electronic music is today. So Avicii and I are putting our money where our mouth is and taking the first step to give back to the country and the fans that have helped shape our careers,” he concluded.

Check out the Avicii House For Hunger January 2012 Tour Dates:

Kicking off at LAVO Las Vegas on Tuesday January 17th, the tour will see Above & Beyond visit several American and Canadian cities for the very first time, as well as kicking off their 2012 residency at Marquee Las Vegas on January 21st. Tickets for all shows are on sale now and it's advisable to be quick as demand for Above & Beyond gigs normally runs high - the band sold out two Hollywood Palladium shows in a record 24 hours earlier this year. Part Two of the Group Therapy North America Tour will take place in May & June 2012.
