REVIEW: Kyau & Albert – 15 Years The Album

Artist: Kyau & Albert
Genre: Trance
Label: Euphonic
Release Date: March 30, 2012
Rating: 9.5 out of 10.0

Introduction:
Two German DJs Ralph Kyau and Steven Moebius Albert joined forces in 1996 after the release of their first single “Let Me In”, then known as Kyau vs. Albert. The following year, in 1997, their label Euphonic was created.

Euphonic signed various DJs such as Sonorous and Ronski Speed. Being recognized for their talent, in 2000 the DJ duo affirmed a long term contract with WEA while receiving much appreciated support from Paul van Dyk, KayCee, and Tiesto.

In 2006, both changed their working name to Kyau & Albert, and continued to produce tracks for EDM. 2012 signifies a great year, releasing an album full of their known tracks, including four unreleased remixes, and one previously unreleased track “This Love”.

Review:

If you're a fan of Kyau & Albert, then there is no doubt that you've heard most of the songs on this compilation. The 17-track album provides various remixes of tracks from their two studio albums Here We Are Now (2004) and Worldvibe (2006), as well as their released singles. Four previously unreleased remixes and one unreleased track titled “This Love” made their way onto this album. Starting off with the unreleased material, “Falling Anywhere (Sun Jellie Remix)” is the album opener, originally released in 2005; the newly rendered instrumental version is more of a soft electro style rather than trance. “This Love” is not yet released but a short preview has already been posted in January. It is more of a dance track, which includes guitar riffs and male vocals which take a while to get used to. Originally released in 2002, but recently remixed by Steve Brian is “Save Me”, a lightly progressive with electronic sounds track. An alternative mix of “Painkillers” has a beautiful orchestral beginning turning into cross between soft breakbeat and alternative drumbeats right after. The last unreleased remix is by Stoneface & Terminal entitled “Made of Sun”, which gets my vote as the best remix on this album. Definitely unleashing its progressive beat, during the chorus it becomes a borderline Dubstep track without the delayed bass.

Many DJs took part in remixing tracks for this album, artists such as Tritonal, Arty, Cosmic Gate, Mat Zo, Stoneface & Terminal, Ronski Speed, and Super8 & Tab showed their support. It also includes two 2011 reworks of “Always A Fool”, and “Kiksu”, the album also incorporates two tracks with Marc Marberg; “Neo Love”, and “Megashira”.

Among other great remixes belongs the Tritonal remix of “Once In A Lifetime”, which gives the typical Tritonal feel like their other tracks do. Followed by “Are You Fine?” a remix by the talented Arty that maintains its bounciness, and was originally released in 2006. The Ronski Speed remix of “Megashira” featuring Marc Marberg is definitely a progressive tune with tons of hard synths, until its beautiful breakdown strikes. “I Love You (Cosmic Gate Remix)” is full of airiness, uplifting beats, with male and female voices alternatively saying 'I love you', that makes it a beautifully arranged track. One of my favorite Kyau & Albert tracks is the last in line on this compilation, a Super8 & Tab remix of “Velvet Morning” with vocals by Damae. During its breakdown there is a beautiful echoed melody, afterwards the same sequence of sounds is portrayed by harsh synths. Including bouncy beats and uplifting vocals, it was originally released in 2003, and makes it a great way to close off the album.

A lot of great variety is offered with new, old, unreleased, and original remixes of Kyau & Albert productions. Many of the tunes are progressive trance with steady beats, which make it a wonderful continuous play. Unfortunately, the album stops short of tracks released before the year 2002, which in fact does not make it the last 15 years. It'd be great to see tracks such as “Let Me In”, “Rocket”, and “Outside” included into this compilation to fulfill their promise of tracks for the past 15 years. Otherwise, it is a brilliant album that will keep you on your feet dancing while listening. The album will be released on March 30th, 2012.
